Abstract

In Kenya, women are heavily involved in agricultural production. They get little attention,
however. Women's contribution to agricultural productivity has been undervalued due to a
lack of sufficient data, which has resulted in their marginalization in sector growth. In
order to provide women with a platform to express their concerns about agricultural-related
problems, this research aimed to investigate the role of women in Kenyan agricultural
output. The author proposes that in order to increase women's visibility in agricultural
production, women's contributions to food security in the home and community should be
considered instead of their contributions to commercialized agriculture, which is
dominated by men. By doing this, the author intends to influence decision-makers to
reconsider how they see rural women who work in agriculture in order to take swift action.
